Hilary Alexander

kawai and hillary

I went to the Telepgraph headquarters in Victoria, London yesterday to interview the fashion journalist, the legend named Hilary Alexander.

We talked about her personal style, the catwalk, the freebies, Karl Lagerfeld, Beth Ditto and her career as a journalist.

I must say she is one of the best people I have ever met in my life, out of the 10s of thousands of people I have come across. For a person who holds such high office in the fashion world, for a person who always receives a bouquet of flowers from Karl and John.

I must say, she has done a good job in staying humble and kind, and remains totally “human”. I have no wonder in why whenever a picture of her appears in blogs, the capture is always “Love her”.

A copy of the write-up will come on here once Hilary’s approval is received.

Designer Houses – How to pronounce it?

I have had so much difficulties with pronouncing Balmain – Commes des Garcon etc etc.
I’ve compiled an essential list from the Elle Uk website.
Hope it helps!

Ann Demeulemeester – Ann de-moo-le-mee-stir

Balmain – Bal-meh

Comme des Garcon – Comm-de-gar-song

Dries van Noten – drees-van-know-ten

Maison Martin Margiela – Meh-song Marc-tein Mar-jel-la

Do shorts

From high waisted denim shorts to granny sequined underpants – shorts are getting hotter and…shorter. Remember the rule – boobs/legs. Otherwise you’d look like a you know what.

Stick to neo-rock or 1950s classics.

The September Issue

Hits UK cinema on the 11th September. The real, behind the scene documentary of the Secret World of Anna Wintour.

Rated 9.2/10 in IMDB. If you loved Devil Wears Prada, there’s no reason why you won’t want to find out about the legendary icy character. One thought though – why has she agreed to the documentary? Rumour has it that Vogue’s subscription and number of Ads has fallen behind Elle – for a woman who will do everything to ensure she performs well at the job, it is not a wonder. At all. She needs press, and a lot of it. Doubt it is about self-promotion, but more to do with saving the magazine…

Coco Avant Chanel is finally in cinema on the 31st July! Giddy giddy!

I heart Lily Allen

Ever since her Smile days, in her full length princessy dresses with wonky sneakers. I’ve loved her styles. Even more so now she’s matured into a true fashion starlette.

Here’s Lily’s interview with the Times. This interview best portraits Lily’s personality and her take at fashion and all. Read it!

Here’s Lily’s reaction to a bag given to her from Gucci:

“Allen heaves the bag out of its packaging, takes one look at its gaudy detailing and, instead of squealing with girlie delight, wrinkles her little button nose and laughs in mock horror. “It’s so heavy,” she says; then adds, “It’s soooo Sarah Harding”, referring to the brash, blonde Girls Aloud member, before delivering her final, damning verdict: “It’s f***ing vile.”

Super Sexy Ankles

A shop called ASH in Clapham Junction does this pair of 5 inch suede ankle boots with 2 inches platform – yes, you’ve heard me moaning about how impossible it is to get a 3-inch arch heel and I was over the moon when I saw them – and they looked beautiful. They haven’t my size. I’ve scoured the whole of Clapham Junction, no shop does them anymore.

But I stumbled on this American website called “super sexy high heels”. And I saw this for $66…

Which are not half bad. I liked the fact they are platformed, they put a little effort into the heels (not straight) and the red-paint Louboutin sole...

I proceeded to view more shoes from the site…

Have I seen it in D&G? It looks like the future!

It's a mile away from what the original Balmain looks like...But this one is sleek, I can see myself in these in a pair of slitted leggings and a big stone-wash Balmain military jacket...

$3500 thank you. Why is Balmain so completely out of our leagues?

Ok. See those fetish shoes for yourselves here: http://www.super-sexy-high-heels.com/

I have to warn you though, you have to keep an open mind when browsing this site. It might make you feel like a stripper shopping for shoes – but they do have some nice stuff there. American sizes are 1 size bigger than ours. So if you are a 4 in UK, you will be a 5.

Rihanna Style

Rihanna can almost get away with any style without disaster. Fashion faux pas isn’t in her dictionary.
Rihanna sticks to the legs/boobs rule. The 21st century chaotic fashion rule stays: mix styles - classic shoes+80s robotic shades+structured butler shirt. Colour code it and you won't go wrong. One focal point only. No fashion faux pas.

Yeah, this type of undergarment would do. Or a bright fuschia tube top under those barely there cotton tees

Chain chains

Chains are definitely up and coming now. Even not as revealing a back you can wear plain colour and bland cuts with accessories made of chains on top - and I don't mean just necklace.

Chains are definitely up and coming now. Even not as revealing a back you can wear plain colour and bland cuts with accessories made of chains on top - and I don't mean just necklace.

The fact that elaborate  chain accessories are difficult to get – make your own! Crafts or DIY shops do cheap gold/silver plated necklaces and you can chain them up to make a chain dress, chain top or something. Pic from http://streetstylelondon.blogspot.com/

Chain paper rings together, pivot the rest of your dress on a ring-made necklace round the collar, and build vertical stripes from them to make fringes - consolidate the frindges by connecting them horizontally.
